There are certain things that are common to every single one of us. How many people do you know that don’t want to look younger, prettier, more handsome, or thinner.
One thing that is universal regardless of our age, our income or what country we live in is that we all want to make more money.
Have you ever met anyone who said I want to be poorer?
I don’t think so.
So flipping houses for a living is naturally very appealing to people who are looking to make more money. And many people that visit my site and come to my boot camps are looking to learn how to flip houses so that they can make more money.
If you are tired of the endless cycle of working hard at your job to earn a paycheck and then watching those earnings go to cover all of your bills then you are not alone. In fact you are the majority.
In the U.S most people spend MORE than they make. Savers are a minority. A recent article in the Washington Post stated that nearly half of all Americans say they can’t afford an unexpected $400 expense. Imagine that. A dentist bill, an emergency, a car breakdown and 50% of the population does not have enough money to come up with even $400.
The sad fact is that the majority of people are living paycheck to paycheck. They DEPEND on their job. They NEED their job. They CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE THEIR JOB.
And that is where the problem starts. That is what makes people get up each and every day and go to a job that they hate. They don’t have a choice. They HAVE TO go to their job to get that paycheck so that they can pay their bills.
This my friend is not a way to live.
It is called the “rat race”
Living your life like this is like a hamster spinning around in that wheel. He is not going anywhere.
Getting up every day, going to work, cooking dinner and then spending whatever free time you have left in front of the TV or on Facebook is what the majority of people in the U.S do.
if you want to be different to everyone else.
If you want to MAKE MORE MONEY than everyone else then you need to start thinking about how you spend your free time and who you spend it with.
The U.S Department of Labor recently released a report called “The American Time Use Survey”. In this report it showed that the average individual spent 5 to 6 hours a day watching TV, socializing or on their computer. Studies indicate that the average user spends about 40 minutes a day on Facebook and another 40 minutes a day reading the news. The rest of their free time is spent WATCHING TV.
So if you don’t want to make more money then just keep doing what you have always been doing. But expecting your financial situation to change without YOU making change is an impossibility.
If you keep doing what you have been doing then work at your job, get your paycheck, pay your bills and…. pray for the best (hope you don’t get fired or laid off).
This is not a way to live.
You don’t have to live this way.
YOU CHOOSE TO.
What I want you to consider is this.
Are you a hamster?
Are you going to get up every single day for the rest of your life and get on that wheel and do the same thing over again? Knowing full well that you are not going anywhere?
That hamster gets on that wheel every single day. He eats, sleeps and lives in that little cage which is a box that is his whole entire universe. That hamster doesn’t even consider what is outside of that cage.
Do you ever think what is outside of your cage?
The life you have created for yourself?
Do you live in a world where a 3% paycheck increase is a big day for you?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to DOUBLE your income?
Or MAKE 10 TIMES AS MUCH MONEY AS YOU MAKE NOW?
Could you imagine how your life would be different if you made that amount of money?
People who say money is not important are deceiving themselves. Money is very important. We use it to pay our bills, to feed our families, to clothe and house ourselves, to pay for medical issues.
And more importantly money gives us FREEDOM. Freedom to take a vacation. Freedom to spend more time with our families. Freedom to travel. Freedom to take up hobbies like boating or playing more golf or fishing.
Freedom to choose.
Freedom from a paycheck.
Do you get up every day and go to a job that you hate?
Do you want to continue living your life this way?
Are you living paycheck to paycheck like everyone else?
What could YOU do to make more money?
Have you ever thought about that?
Or do you just get up every day and do the same thing?
Is your life a “rat race” like that hamster?
Do you want it to be that way? Forever?
I am sure you don’t. so I have outlined below a few key steps that you need to take to implement change:
STEP ONE
consider how you spend your free time every single day. Take 3 hours out of that 6 hours of free time to better yourself. Start reading. Read online, read offline, but read. Reading gives you information. And in today’s economy information is power. Information is money. You can sell information. You can use information to make more money.
Learn and study how other people are making lots of money.
Stop living your life with outdated beliefs from 50 years ago.
Do you tell your kids to go to school, get good grades and go to college?
Do you think that is what will get them a good job in this economy?
It won’t!
What will help them make more money is knowledge and information.
You acquire that knowledge and information from reading.
And I am not talking about reading from college text books.
I mean information that other people desperately need.
Learn how to sell.
Learn how to get leads.
Learn how to convert them.
Learn how to make money from information.
Learn how to make money sitting at your laptop computer on a beach in Hawaii.
Or at a coffee shop
Or on your boat.
Work doesn’t have to be the way you think it is.
It can be different.
You can make money while you sleep.
Information is power.
Knowledge is power.
There are many different ways to make money.
My boat mechanic charges $85 an hour to work on my boat.
He has specialized knowledge. He is in high demand. I have to wait weeks for him to get to my boat
He didn’t go to college.
My kid is making more money on Instagram than the average adult makes in a year.
He is 17 years old.
Do you even know what Instagram is?
Did you know that video editors are charging $100 to $125 an hour?
Do you know how hard it is to find a good video guy?
The key in today’s economy is SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE.
If I ask you – “What can you do that most people in the world cannot do”.
What would your answer be?
If your answer is “nothing” then guess what – you are probably working at a job that you hate and living paycheck to paycheck. And your days are numbered. One day someone half your age will take your job for half of what you make.
And what is your grand master plan then? Retire? Be unemployed?
Finding work that is related to doing something that you love is very important.,
If you have a passion and you can do it every day then your life feels quite different. Going to work does not feel like a job. It feels like fun. And even if you don’t make a killing, at least you enjoy going to work and don’t live a life of “quite desperation” (to quote Thoreau).
Passion is key. Love what you do. Be good at it.
One of my coaching students was frustrated that her teenage son spent all his time building tricked out motorcycles and wasn’t interested in going to college.
I asked her “Does he love working on motorcycles?”.
Her answer was “that is what he lives for”.
My suggestion to her was that he skip college and let him follow his passion and build a business around it. Instead of fighting with him I encouraged her to help him set up his business and get customers. If you follow what you love, the money will come. Today that kid makes a small fortune building high end custom bikes for very wealthy people. As a side benefit he hangs out with some really famous people.
He never went to college.
Michael Dell never graduated college
Neither did Bill Gates, Steve Job, or Marc Zuckerberg.
So if the founders of Apple Computer, Facebook, Microsoft and Dell are all billionaires and none of them graduated college does that tell you something?
Maybe times have changed?
Don’t be stuck with outdated beliefs that you can go to a good school, get good grades and get a good job. It won’t help in today’s economy.
Starting a business, creating jobs – that is what works in today’s economy.
If you apply for a job working with me in my real estate office I don’t care what school you went to (or if you graduated college). I care about other things. Like can you write well? Can you code? Do you know html? Are you good on a computer?
In today’s economy, knowledge is about information. Information is power. and with that information comes money. so watch how you spend that spare time and make sure you are spending at least half of it acquiring knowledge and information.
STEP 2
Develop a game plan. Start creating concrete action steps that will help you get out of the rat race.
Real estate is a great vehicle to plan on getting out of the rat race because you can get started without having to invest much money (unlike most investments).
All you need to do is to learn how to find really good deals at really cheap prices.
STEP 3
start doing something about your plan.
Take “Massive Determined Action” to quote Tony Robbins.
Create an area of expertise. Become good at something.
My area of expertise is distressed real estate.
Distressed sellers, distressed and damaged properties.
Foreclosures, short sales and bank owned properties.
This is what I specialize in. That is what I know.
This is what my students pay me to teach them.
I teach INFORMATION. And I charge a lot of money for this information.
Knowing how to find a great deal on a foreclosure is SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE.
Understanding how to find these houses and flip them to investors for a profit is a SPECIALIZED SKILL
It is a skill that you can learn.
I have taught it to thousands of people.
